I am not interested in expressivity or in relationships as you are supposed to be,
I am interested in making some thing that I don't understand.
John Cage
LEVY 1st VIEW is the LEVY Galerie’s emerging artist exhibition platform, championing curiosity, experimentation, readiness to take risks, and unwillingness to compromise on artistic quality. With our galleries we have space enough to exhibit the innovative and the trend-setting, the experimental and the not-yet established. With the implementation of LEVY 1st VIEW we are concentrating on an essential aspect of gallery work: the advancement of emerging art.
What tempts us out of our modern caves is the unknown. It prompts us to set off for new horizons, where there appears to be only discovered continents. In this world, investigated pixel by pixel by satellite cameras, art is a way to express all these visions and recognitions, and is a challenge in itself. To express the unknown and the new and to dare to attempt it: that is what emerging art stands for. Work by the younger generation of artists is not only especially important in this context, but it also opens our eyes to unfamiliar, fresh approaches. Emerging art and the latest art has the potential to take the viewer on an emotional journey.
We developed the idea for the new series, “Aktuelle Positionen + Tendenzen” [contemporary positions and tendencies], with the intention of focussing on the panorama of artistic positions from the younger generation. Thereby we offer a forum to emerging artists, and to the public we provide the privilege of a first look. Our aim is to promote emerging contemporary art, giving the artists an opportunity to present their works to a broad audience beyond the walls of the academies and their studios, and allowing them to test their mettle in the exhibition business under professional conditions.
