Vaccari’s series of paintings Capricci exist at thresholds. They feed on contradiction: between transformation and stasis, self and other, public and private space. Barren stage-like spaces and landscapes, that feel borrowed from Surrealist painting, are haunted by the psychological intensity of their uncanny inhabitants. LEVY Gallery’s exhibition presents works that capture the double meaning of capricci, both whim and eccentricity in Italian, at once playful and unsettling, refusing to settle into a single interpretation.
