Dancer, poet, regisseur, object artist and founding member of the French artists’ movement Nouveau Réalisme as well as main representative of Eat Art–Daniel Spoerri (*1930), born in Gelati, Romania, gives reason for visual irritation in his Fallenbilder (snare- pictures), compositions of “trapped remains of everyday realities”. The examination of the transformation of materials and “things” is essential for his artistic oeuvre. Through a simple intervention, for example through flipping an object from horizontal to vertical sight, he stirs our way of perceiving reality and undermines adopted habits. Since the 1980s up to today Spoerris works have become part of main international museum collections and exhibitions affirming his position as a main representative of the European post-war art scene. The exhibition at LEVY Salon honors the 91-year-old artist on the occasion of his large museum exhibition at Langen Foundation, Neuss with a small retrospection of his oeuvre of the past seven decades.
